Jane Martin

Matron, NIHR Southampton Clinical Research Facility

Jane leads and manages and an experienced team of research nurses, AHPS and other clinical colleagues based at the NIHR Southampton Clinical Research Facility, aiming to ensure that public and patients have the opportunity to take part in research and find it a positive experience, the research is delivered within the facility, hospital and wider community.


Jane supports researchers from all professions and specialities to undertake a wide variety of studies within the facility. She works closely with the research support team to review incoming studies, overseeing the set up and implementation of each project. She also oversees  the day -to-day activity within the CRF and supports  them in the safe and expert delivery of research studies.


Jane is the main facility nurse contact for the NIHR Clinical Research Network Wessex (Paediatrics)  and works to encourage links with regional teams delivery research locally, promoting the benefit of engaging clinical staff in delivering research on the wards and involving specialist nurses. Jane also has a role with the UK Clinical Research Facility Network as the co-chair for the nurses and practitioners group

Jane took on the secondment as Acting Matron for the CRF during the Covid pandemic in September 2020, having worked as a research nurse in the unit since 2009. 


Jane originally qualified as children’s and adult nurse, however her passion is in children’s nursing and her career has led her to specialise in research.
